Los Angeles VEX Robotics Championship

Here's the usual late updates :)
Some of you may already know, but we'd like to post the details online.

Robots that competed:
2467 - Albert, Ashleigh
2467B - Mery-Ann, Destiny
2467C - Jeremy, Bernadette
2467D - Brendan, Mr. Schaefers

Every robot went into the ellimination rounds!
Congratulations to Mery-Ann and Destiny (2467B) for getting through to the quarter final rounds with their first robot and first big competiton!

Alliances!:
2467A and D - 2nd alliance.
2467C - 3rd alliance.
2467B - 6th alliance.

Ellimination Rounds!:
B got through to Quarter finals.
C went to Semi finals.
A and D went to Finals with 404D as their alliance.

A, D and 404D won the tournament :)

Awards!:
2 Tournament Champion awards - A and D
Judges Award - A
Robot Skills - D

We were the only Hawaii team, and the only team not from California, that competed the weekend of this tournament.
The team that was a part of the winning alliance was Team 404, one of the teams that won World Championships this passed May.
We graciously thank them for being a part of our amazing win.

*To my team: We may not have won Pan Pacific like we all wanted to, but we sure pulled through at the LA VRC. I am incredibly proud of all of you for working so hard this hectic month. We truely are unstoppable.

Sincerely,
Ashleigh Castillo
Captain and coach.

2009 Pan Pacific Championships.

Tournament Update :)

You know, it sucks when you can't get free internet at the hotel you're staying at...

Anyway.

We entered 2467A and 2467B into the tournament.
Of course... those weren't the actual robots/drivers that played during the competition.
Kind of.

2467C played as 2467A.
and 2467A played as 2467B.
Confusing? Sorry.

BUT! "2467A" made it to rank 6 during the tournament.
"2467B" had some bad alliances and stayed near the 60's ranks.

During elimination rounds, both robots were in the same alliance,
along with a team from Hawaii Baptist Academy.
Got through to quarter finals, but sadly, ended there.

Pan Pacific turned out to be just another practice for our drivers.
Left with no awards or earned spots to worlds.

But of course,
congratulations to our friends the Cheesy Poofs from teams 254A, B and C, for winning the entire tournament.

And The Countdown Begins.

5 days till Pan Pacific Championships :)

Another Quick Update.

> About 11-13 students will be at the PPC this year.

> We won't be having new shirts till after the PPC and LA.

> We'll be competing at the Los Angeles VEX Robotics Championship on December 12th.

> 2 robots will be competing at the PPC again this year, but we aren't quite sure who will compete just yet. (It's between A, B and C)

> 4 robots will be competing at the LA VRC, A, B, C and D.

> Oh, we officially have an all girls "team" -- 2467D is built and driven by all girls :)

West Oahu Tournament.

Happy belated updates!

Of course, as some of you may know, the island got split into West and East (of Fort Shafter).

We are a part of the West Coast.

Anyway, another win for us :)

Details?
We competed at the West Oahu VEX Robotics Tournament,
held at Moanalua High School on October 24th, 2009.
We entered 4 robots, A, B, C and D.

B became a part of the first alliance.
C was a part of the second alliance.
A and D were a part of the 4th alliance.

Interesting fact? We all ranked lower because we'd score too many points.

A and D lost during Semi's.
B and C went head to head (a basic replay of Maui) in the Finals,
but B, 394 and a Nanakuli team (first alliance) ended up winning.

Therefore, we won our third Tournament Champion award.
And along with that, A won the Judges Award :)

Mind you, our very first Judges Award, ever.

Defending Champions.

Sorry for the late update, everyone,
But,

We won the Maui tournament!

We flew out to Maui on Oct 2nd and competed
on Oct 3rd, at Baldwin High School.
There, 16 teams (robots) were going head to head in
the first robotics competition for the Hawaii
students.

Our team entered 3 robots, A, B and C.
Our drivers? A, Albert Dayag. B, Brendan Scott,
and C, Jeremy Huff.

Here's some status updates for you :)

Schools!:
Some of the schools competing included,
Maui High, Iao, Lahainaluna, and Kalani which was the
only other team (apart from us) that came from Oahu.
-I think there were others, but I'm sorry, I don't
know their names >____< Final Ranking & Match record!:
2467A - Albert, rank 3 // 4 wins, 1 loss.
2467B - Brendan, rank 2 // undefeated.
2467C - Jeremy, rank 5 // 3 wins, 2 loss.

Double Elimination Rounds/Playoffs/Finals!:
2467B (rank 2) and 2443A (Maui High, also undefeated & rank 1) allianced through the "playoff" rounds. Together, they got to the finals, undefeated. 2467A (rank 3) and 2467C (rank 5), the two lower ranked Sabertron teams, allianced and also went through to the final rounds. Going head to head in a "best, 2 out of 3" match, 2467A and 2467C finally defeated the undefeated teams and were announced TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS with a score of 131 to 27.

Awards and Recognition!:
- One of two Oahu teams.
- 2467A, Tournament Champion.
- 2467C, Tournament Champion.
- 2467B, EXCELLENCE AWARD!
*Although 2467B was finally defeated by its own team mates, it was awarded the Exellence Award, giving us our 3rd official spot to the 2010 VEX Robotics World Championships :)

So in my conclusion?
Well, this will be our 3rd year competing in Worlds. We've competed at the World Championships every year, since we've been a team (3 years, obviously). Once again, like last year, we've landed THREE spots. Hopefully, we can get more ;)
This is also our second year competing in Maui! And like my title, we are so far, the defending champions of the Maui VEX Robotics Tournament. Last year, we also won as tournament champions, first place.

To My Team:
I'm extremely overwhelmed at how amazing all of you were during the tournament. EVERYONE was on the field, and it was just an exciting thing to see. I know I may not tell you guys often, but I really am proud of all of your hard work. The Drivers, the coaches, the back up drivers, our programmer, the media crew, our scouts, our mascot, even our team mates that were chosen to referee the tournament -- all of you did a wonderful job, and I'm glad your my team. I'm sure we made our teachers very proud that weekend :)

Sincerely,
Ashleigh Castillo, team captain, 2467A coach.

It Was A Pleasure Doing Buisness.

So as of today, we have an 80% chance of going to Maui.

We're having slight troubles with registration and school paperwork, but we're trying hard.
Whether we get to compete or not,
robots WILL be done and we will be flying out to Maui for the
Maui County Fair VEX Robotics Tournament.

Currently, Albert, Jeremy and Brendan, our main drivers and builders, are working on their first robots to compete with.

New members of the team are also being put to work, which is a plus for us (:

*But we still have a small problem.

We may not be able to compete at the Moanalua tournament near the end of October, due to the fact that all spots are filled.
Our teacher is currently trying to get us a place, by speaking to Art Kimura, one of the heads of our VEX tournaments here in Hawaii.

Hopefully things work out well (:

Ho Brehh.

Busy, busy, busy.

First tournament is Oct 3rd.
And we still haven't registered :(

Uh Oh.
Spots are disappearing.

New Recruits, New Year.

Today we had one of our "official" meetings.
I thought it went well, even if we talked and rambled.
Lol.

But, it was good and I'm happy about that.
Most of us from the original team helped one another
contribute to the meeting too.
That was a shock, haha. (Just kidding)

So now, we continue with setting up for the new year,
as we wait for the team sign up forms to get
turned in.

LOOK OUT FOR NEW THINGS FROM OUR TEAM!

Alot of moving around and whatnot.

We all went to the mall today and spent
a large amount of our monies haha.
No more shopping for us.

Well, once again, mery and I are in the boys'

The other girls are in our room, watching

8 Days.

So far, there are 8 days till we leave for the
Dallas VEX Robotics World Championships.

We're all getting pretty hyped :)

Our robots are almost all done.
We're entering 3 since we have that many spots.
Albert and Brendan are finally finished with
their new and more upgraded robots.
Both are completely different from the other
robots we've used during competition.

But then again..
They trash their ideas after every tournament
and rebuild anyways.

Our website is almost completely set up too.
Whoo whoo for me and Ken!

Our new shirts are most likely to come in
early this week.
We're gonna look pretty dang snazzy
at that competition :)
